A Student CTF as a Starting Point — Learning from the MOD U-25 Competition

Separate applications from the competition date

Information checked: 2 November 2026. The Ministry of Defence’s student-only CTF could offer an entry point for first-time participants. We distinguish the application announcement from our educational interpretation.

Applications opened on 28 October, when VLC Security also issued an announcement. The online competition runs from 10:00 to 18:00 JST on 29 November; applications close at 23:59 JST on 20 November. Participants must attend a school in Japan and have been born on or after 2 April 2001. Individuals and teams of two or three may enter. Check the Ministry’s official rules for details.

Connect preparation and reflection

The following is an interpretation for Cyber Hiroshima. Assessment could distinguish preparation, problem-solving and reflection rather than rely solely on scores. Separating missing knowledge, unreproducible actions and difficulties interpreting evidence could help learners choose their next source or exercise.

What to consider next

Within the proposed combination of a CyBOK knowledge base, SudoRange practice, AI assistance using Robutler or similar tools, Personalised Learning and a Private AI Appliance, a useful test would ask learners to explain their evidence after a competition. Start with a small reflection task and distinguish understanding from copying an AI answer. This is a proposal for evaluation, not an announced partnership with the Ministry or a completed integration.
